A Carefully Curated Art Installation Comprised of Over 20 Sculptures Now Graces the Expansive St. Helena Resort
Harvest Inn by Charlie Palmer announces the installment of a 26-piece sculpture garden now incorporated into the renowned resort’s majestic grounds. Bay Area artist, Amanda Klimek, curated the collection of sculptures, which was commissioned by chef and hotelier Charlie Palmer who acquired the property earlier this year. The sculptures, made of cast bronze, ceramic, steel, acrylic, and glass, are located throughout Harvest Inn’s eight acres of property scape that were recently re-envisioned by renowned landscape architecture firm, Michael Painter & Associates. The goal of the sculpture garden is to recognize the synergy between art and nature, offer a picturesque setting for local artists to display their work, and serve as an artistic complement to the grounds and gardens.
"From the Mayacamas Mountains to the expansive vineyards, St. Helena is surrounded by natural beauty. The new sculpture garden at the Harvest Inn celebrates the talent of local artists along with the stunning natural landscapes of the Napa Valley,” says Chef Palmer. “I’ve enjoyed the process of watching the sculptures come to life here at the Harvest Inn and look forward to the garden’s growth and evolvement, as well as a newfound partnership with the artistic community here in Napa Valley."
Sculpture Garden Details
The yearly rotating art installation features a mix of both modern and contemporary outdoor sculptures from eleven different artists, including one from the curator herself, Amanda Klimek. The collection of artwork will grow over time and pieces can be purchased through the artists’ agents. Award-winning artists include fine arts educators Dennis Leon and Wayne Schaffer, Peter Dreyfuss, Nina Lyons, City College of San Francisco instructor Stephanie Robison, Ann Weber, and more. The sculptures range from abstract interpretations of the human body, to works that explore subjects of the natural landscape, to those that employ humor and a critical eye to American myth/tradition and modern life.
Many of the artists have had collections exhibited at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington DC, Tacoma Art Center, The Philadelphia Museum of Art and Oakland Museum Collector's Gallery, among others. Images of the sculptures themselves can be seen here.
The grounds and sculptures are open to the public for complimentary enjoyment while staying on property and as a visitor as part of a larger program to support the burgeoning local art community in the Napa Valley. Future plans include in-depth tours, artist luncheons, lectures, and much more. The sculpture garden will be unveiled in a public reception on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 4:30 pm.
